Bali Beaches

a)  Padang- Padang Beach better known as Julia Roberts Beach from the movie Eat, Pray, Love.

The entrance to this beach is unique and somewhat magical as you need to enter a small cave through a narrow staircase before you actually reach the secluded beach, it is like finding a hidden paradise.  The beach is surrounded by rocks and it is calm and beautiful, the day we visited in mid-November, surfers were spread far from the shore.  Padang Padang beach is located at the SW side of the lower island, north of the Uluwatu temple.  If you don’t have a car, you can hire a cab for the day and the driver can stop at the temple for spectacular views before you head to the beach.  You could then stop for a romantic fresh grilled seafood feast at a casual restaurant at Jimbaran beach; most of the restaurants along the beach serve the same seafood fare although prices do vary.

b)  Nusa Dua – Our beautiful hotel Bali Tropic Resort had intricate Balinese style wood work throughout:  http://balitropic-resort.com/. It is located in Nusa Dua at the end of the bay.  The sand was white and fine and the waters were very calm, making it a perfect place to relax.  There is a very nice bike path along the beach that extends through many resorts in Nusa Dua, you can walk or use a bike, either way, the scenery is very pleasant.   Along the beach you can find places to rent jet skis or other water activities.  From that area you can go to turtle island or take a plane tour to the Komodo dragon Island.

c)    Seminyak, Legion and Kuta – These three beaches were not my favorite, they are plain and straight for miles, they were not as calm as the previous beaches.  I just did not find anything special, the sand area was large and the hotels were big, preventing access to any lush landscape typical in other beaches in Bali.  It was very difficult to find any restaurants along the beach with the exception of the north end of Seminyak beach where there are a couple of them. There is an area where the Balinese make their offerings and you can find Chicken satay and grilled corn from street vendors.  The blocks behind the beaches are where you find restaurants of all kinds and large shopping areas.  In Kuta, there is also a big market. These beaches seem to attract a lot of surfers, the atmosphere is casual and relaxing.
